Pastor Dave's Bio

Dave Johnston grew up in a Christian home but never knew Jesus as his Savior and Lord.  When he was in high school several of his close friends became Christians and invited Dave to a home Bible study. It was there that he heard the gospel for first time and confessed that he was a sinner and invited Christ to be his Lord and Savior. From that point his life was transformed. God gave him a burning desire to know Him, serve Him and to proclaim the gospel of the Kingdom.

After graduating form the University of Minnesota, Dave went on staff with Campus Crusade for Christ and served on campus staff at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. During this time God began to put a desire in Dave’s heart to become a pastor. In 1980 he married Jean and entered pastoral ministry. He graduated from Bethel Seminary in 1985 and planted Cornerstone Church in Savage, Minnesota. In 1995 God led Dave and Jean and their family to CrossPoint Church in Coon Rapids, Minnesota.     

Over the last 13 years God has greatly blessed Pastor Dave and his ministry at CrossPoint Church. The church added a new worship area in the year 2000 and it has an active and vibrant youth group and children’s ministry that has touched hundreds of lives. Also, Pastor Dave has led CrossPoint to vibrant Spirit filled worship services that meet on Sunday mornings and Sunday nights. People of all ages and backgrounds feel welcomed into the family of CrossPoint Church!

Dave’s greatest joy in life is to daily walk with God and read, study and teach God’s Word. Dave says, “The best way to describe me is I am a seeker of truth. God has put something inside of my heart that I love to discover the truths of God’s Word and than teach others.” Pastor Dave’s passion is to proclaim all of God’s truths to his church and to love and shepherd them as Jesus would. .

Besides teaching God’s Word, Pastor Dave is a family man deeply in love with his wife Jean and their two children Davey (20) and daughter Kristen (18). Jean is in the travel industry so the Johnston family have had many opportunities to travel across America and Europe over the years. One of Dave and Jean’s goals in life is to travel the world. Pastor Dave also enjoys playing tennis, scuba diving, downhill skiing, in-line skating and karate. His mission in life is to love God and love people and to follow passionately in the footsteps of Jesus one day at a time.
